Practicum: Week 1 Journal Entry
To prepare for this course’s Practicum Experience, address the following in your Practicum Journal:
•Select a nursing theory or model and explain how it will guide your clinical practice.
•Develop goals and objectives for the Practicum Experience in this course. Consider the Nurse Practitioner Core Competencies, as well as your personal strengths and weaknesses in terms of your Practicum Experiences (e.g., what have you done, what have you not done, where are your gaps, etc.).
•Create a time line of practicum activities based on your practicum requirements.
Practicum: Week 2 Journal Entry
Reflect on the current clinical practice guidelines you are using in your practicum setting. Describe at least two of these guidelines and explain how you are implementing each in your clinical practice. Then, explain whether these guidelines have presented any challenges, and discuss how you might approach these challenges in the future. If you have not had the opportunity to evaluate patients in your practicum setting, you can reflect on previous clinical experiences.
Practicum: Week 3 Journal Entry
Reflect on a patient from your practicum setting who presented with signs or symptoms of risk behaviors. Recall the theory/model you selected in this week’s Discussion. Explain how you might use (or did use) the theory/model in practice to influence changes in this patient’s risk behaviors. If you have not had the opportunity to evaluate a patient with this background during the last three weeks, you may select a related case study from a reputable source or reflect on previous clinical experiences.
Practicum: Week 4 Journal Entry
Reflect on the patient profile and assessment process that is used at your practicum setting. Based on the windshield survey you conducted for this week’s Discussion, explain how you would modify, enhance, or adapt this patient profile and assessment and why.
